After founding The DMZ Bar in Yangshuo, I have been living there on/off for the last five years. If you live in Yangshuo for any period of time, the small size of it makes you an expert pretty quickly on what to do, where to eat, and of course, the best places to grab a beer.
Here’s my FAQ on the best things to do in Yangshuo at night.
Where can I get western food in Yangshuo?
McDonald’s, KFC, and even Burger King are now represented in Yangshuo, but for really good western food, the only option is The Brew. The Brew was formerly known as Alley Bar and has for years offered the best western food in Yangshuo. They got steaks, burgers, pizza, pasta, regular specials, and decent draft beer. There are some other western restaurants in Yangshuo (such as German), but these are geared to tourists and of poor value.
Where can I get a good curry in Yangshuo?
Believe it or not, there’s not one, but two Indian restaurants in Yangshuo, and did you know they are both next to each other! One is a bit shit, and not actually run by Indians, and the other is called Ganga. I have been there many a time with some guests and the cuisine at Ganga Impressions Yangshuo can rival anything else I have tried in my travels. They will even cook you chips and gravy if you ask nicely.
What is the best bar in Yangshuo?
OK, so my obvious answer would be The DMZ Bar, but let’s take my personal prejudice out of this for now! Way way back in the day, the best known and the frequented bar was Monkey Jane’s. That is now way past its best unless you wanna drink with the “spring break” crowd. If you like a chilled dive bar vibe, head to The DMZ, night time fun and sunset, head to Bad Panda, boring climbers, the Rusty Bolt, and if you want to get your party on, head to Mojo.
Can I watch live football in Yangshuo?
The Brew shows earlier football games, with later all games, and the latest ones being put on at The DMZ Bar. The Premier League at least, if you are looking for some obscure Belgium game, you will probably be out of luck.
Should I drink on West Street?
Do you like bad music? Are you keen on paying $10 for a small bottle of Tsingtao? If you do, then West Street is a dream! Back in the day, there used to be a few places on West Street that were worth a drink, but now it is simply an overpriced tourist trap.
Where can I go clubbing in Yangshuo?
Well, the closest things there are to clubs in Yangshuo are the overpriced hell holes of West Street, but Mojo Rooftop bar (who also have normal prices) quite often have DJ’s and the odd pumping party where you are much more likely to meet “locals”.
What can I do in Yangshuo when it is raining and I have a hangover?
Come to The DMZ Bar for some hair of the dog, we are the only bar open in the daytime!
