How to start a travel blog and make money in 2018
Travel Blogging and making money online, seems like everyone is doing it right? Online we seem to be bombarded with e-mails and adds showing people making thousands online, now whilst most of these claims are bogus exaggerated claims by affiliate marketers it IS possible for anyone, regardless of how little tech knowledge you have to start a blog, and I will show you how.
Now the first thing to know about blogging is that no one makes money right away, and making money should not be your primary reason for starting one. I personally thing that everyone should have their own blog, no matter it is about.
Step 1 – Pick your niche
Whilst I am primarily talking about “travel blogs”, the term travel blog is in itself quite a broad term. And there are several niches within the travel blogging sphere. Are you a foodie? Are you obsessed with planes? Many people make the mistake of being too broad, where I fact the real money can be in finding a niche (google Street Food bloggers). So, get a theme going in your head, an idea and then start thinking about your domain name.
When picking your domain name, try to think of something memorable, not too long, and catchy. Whilst .com will always remain the top dogs, there are now super cool new extensions such as .life, or .club which offer a lot more choices for name of your travel blog.
Step 2 – Hosting and Buying your domain
To start a blog, you need a “host”, these are the guys that let you put your site on their digital real estate. Whilst there are lots out there, YPT have always personally used Bluehost and WPEngine. Why? Bluehost are the number 1 and cheapest provider with monthly packages being as little as $3.95 per month, where WPEngine, whilst a lot more expensive offer a broader range of services. But if you are a first timer on a limited budget, lets start with Bluehost.
So, as you will see from our “how to” below after you pick your name, hosting plan, and of course pay, you are ready to get going.
Step 3 – WordPress
There are a lot of heavily advertised website making services, such as Wix that whilst easy to make sites from, do not look good. WordPress (which can be downloaded automatically from Bluehost) offers the most customizable themes (many of which are completely free), and easy to do even for the biggest luddites out there.
Go to Appearance and click on Themes

You can choose between,popular,latest,favorites
Or you can search themes here
Click on install
Step 4 – Content
OK, so this might seem obvious, but your website needs content, and you should do a lot of this before you start to advertise your site. Nothing is worse than advertising a half done site with minimal content, so get your thinking caps on, go into your travel bank and start getting some of your best travel stories online. For this you will need to think about not only your niche, but think of yourself not just as a blogger, but as a consumer, what would you want to read?
Step 5 – Social Media
choose your category
edit the tile
check i agree to facebook pages terms
adding a cover photo and your done!
