Honiara Hotel Review
So the Solomon Islands is the 15th least visited country in the world, which qualified it for the last night of the YPT least visited countries tour. We decided we wanted something decent with a pool and airport pickup service, and thankfully fate led us towards perhaps one of the best hotels I have ever traveled to, the Honiara Hotel in the Solomon Islands.
Why the Honiara Hotel?
Sir Chan, the owner is reason enough. A Chinese man of 75 years old born and bred in the Solomon Islands, fluent in 4 languages, met the Queen 3 times, was an MP, has been knighted, and hosted Kate and Wills when they stayed in the Solomon Islands. He is also a super kind and fun bloke, that’s happy to chew the fat about his very very interesting past!
Aside from that, the Honiara Hotel has a great location with multiple restaurants, airport pickup and they offer tours to Honiara and beyond, kinda useful for me!
What are Honiara Hotel rooms like?
Around $110 a night for the standard rooms, all of which have a small TV, balcony, and bathroom. They look a little dated, but it adds to the kitsch value, rather than take anything away from the place.
And! Let’s not forget the big kahuna! They have a room (801), that Prince William and Kate Middleton stayed in when they visited the Solomon Islands.
Honiara Hotel Location
$10 for a cab from the airport, 10 minutes from Chinatown, and about 30 minutes from the market and the main centre of Honiara.
The split levels of the hotel offer some great views of the mountains surrounding Honiara.
Honiara Hotel – Facilities
Truly fabulous! The Honiara Hotel is almost like a nature resort and offers more than enough stuff that you don’t need to go out into Honiara.
- Huge swimming pool
- 3 restaurants, including French and Chinese
- Coffee Shop
- Bar with super friendly staff
- Sunday Buffet (The Best in Honiara)
- Traditional Dancing
- Guide services around Honiara
- Tour services in Honiara
Even if the Honiara Hotel was crap, it would be worth your time to just sit down and listen to the wonderful Mr. Chan.
Luckily, the Honiara Hotel is not only wonderful, but their super friendly staff can help you with everything that you will need. If you are traveling to the Solomon Islands then the Honiara Hotel is your best bet!
