Yangshuo is famous as a drinking town, if you include the bars of West Street there are literally hundreds of watering holes for people to wet their beaks. Unfortunately though, most of these bars are godawful, with overpriced beers and offensively loud (and bad) live music. But do not despair! We have compiled a list of the 5 most foreigner-friendly bars in Yangshuo.
5) Rusty Bolt
Situated on Gui Hua Road, this favourite with climbers is extremely well priced, has two floors and really kicks into life at weekends. The “goldfish bowl”, as locals affectionately call, is well worth a visit.
4) Kaya Bar
Just off of West Street, Kaya — Yangshuo’s very own reggae bar — is the place to go if you like a bit of jamming, or less offensive live music. Nice vibe throughout the week.
3) The Lounge Bar
It tells you something about small town mentality when something 15 minutes’ walk from the centre of town is considered “far”. They got sofas, they got computer games, they got Western food and they got probably the best selection of beer in Yangshuo. Not so busy at the weekend, but well worth the trek during the week.
2) The DMZ Bar
Ok we might be bias here, but to list the facts! Draft beer, live football, North Korean beer and a very communist of themes! One of the only bars that’s open in the day, closes late, best/only draft beer in Yangshuo and it’s cheap. Nuff said.
Note: alas, the DMZ bar has since closed. We hope you enjoy the other fine bars that Yangshuo has to offer!
1) Bad Panda
It’s got the location on West Street, it’s got the rooftop for sunset, and if you take your pants off you get a free shot. Bad Panda is always open late, comfy sofas and two crazy dogs (Stella and Oreo) and a crazy German (all cuddly) make this our top tip for drinking in Yangshuo.
