Sotel Hotel – Shenzhen
Over the last few weeks and my travels through Eastern Europe and the Middle East with Young Pioneer Tours and Pioneer Media, I have traveled through a few quaint little airports such as Almaty, Kiev, and Larnaca, just made me realize how huge and ridiculous things can be in China. Shenzhen North Railway station is a goddamned metropolis, and along with Guangzhou South Railway station dealing with the most rail passengers in China, and a station I use a lot.
Why Sotel Hotel – Shenzhen?
You can travel to almost anywhere in China via Shenzhen North Railway Station, but for me personally, it provides a great 1-hour link to Guangzhou South Railway Station, and thus to Yangshuo, where The DMZ Bar is. Although I have a place in Shenzhen, my morning train was going to be particularly early, so I opted to stay the night at Shenzhen North. I used www.Ctrip.com, who in general offer the best rates and range for hotels in China, and found the Sotel, which apparently was 200 metres from Shenzhen North Railway station. In the end, it took me almost 30 minutes to find the place as it is literally in the train station, probably only 100 metres from the entrance to the east gate of Shenzhen North Railway Station. Great success!
What are Sotel Hotel – Shenzhen rooms like?
Quirky, weird, and a little bit 70’s porn like. The corridors look like a futuristic version of The Shining.
Western toilet, cable, multiple plugs, and a sofa.
Room cost was RMB 198 ($25), which for Shenzhen, its great location, and what you got was fair value.
Sotel Hotel – Shenzhen Location
Literally 100 metres from the East gate of Shenzhen North Railway station. This is the best hotel to stay at if you are traveling from Shenzhen North Railway Station. It is also by far the nearest hotel to Shenzhen Railway Station.
Connected to downtown by Line 4 of the Shenzhen Metro, and pretty much the whole of China via the CRH high-speed railway.
Sotel Hotel – Shenzhen – Facilities
Not a great deal of on-site facilities, but it is right next to the underground mall and food court connected to Shenzhen North Railway Station, so plenty of dining options. Reception is 24 hours, and they speak a smattering of English.
Conclusion on the Sotel Hotel – Shenzhen
An absolutely great place to stay if you have a layover, or an early train departing Shenzhen North Railway Station.
Really interesting décor and layout that made this a pretty interesting place to stay, highly recommended if your needs take you here.
